San Pedro, CA – Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) is pleased to announce Awake in the Clouds – a party by artists, for artists and their friends on May 24, 2025 from 6pm-9pm. Tickets are now available for a whimsical evening of high-flying performances, art installations, a silent auction, and a sky-themed costume contest. Proceeds from ticket sales go to support Angels Gate Cultural Center’s mission to provide space for artists to work and to engage the community through arts education, exhibitions of contemporary art, and cultural events. AGCC is located at 3601 S. Gaffey St. San Pedro, CA 90731.
The sky-themed costume contest encourages everyone to embrace the theme (costumes admired, not required). Come as a cloud, a star, a bird, a plane—anything that might be seen in the sky. The most creative sky-inspired costumes will win prizes. The silent art auction will give partygoers opportunity to bid on contemporary artwork by AGCC Studio Artists including Phoebe Barnum, Dennis Keeley, June Edmonds, Ann Weber, and more. The evening and environment will include site-specific art installations by AGCC Studio Artists Henry Krusoe and Soft Chick.
The arts are vital to building and sustaining healthy communities. Beyond creative expression, the arts enrich everyone’s lives through connection. Funds raised during Awake in the Clouds will help AGCC provide over 20,000 community members with arts and arts education programming.
Tickets are available now at angelsgateart.org/awake
Four levels of sponsorship are available for community members who wish to provide even more essential support for Angels Gate Cultural Center’s exhibitions, arts education, and community programming. Friends of the arts who can’t attend the party but still want to make an impact may select the Angel Sponsor option in the ticket menu to support the arts at AGCC.
The event also marks the closing of the AGCC gallery’s current exhibition, Cloud 3601. Cloud 3601 presents works by thirty-five artists who create at the Center. Recognizing AGCC’s long history of artists who established art studios in the former army barracks during the 1970s, Cloud 3601 celebrates the artist community as vital to the creative vibrancy of San Pedro. Featuring ceramics, photography, woodworking, painting, metalwork, poetry, sculpture, and digital media, Cloud 3601 presents a selection of diverse works showcasing the multifaceted art practices of the AGCC Studio Artist Program.
